Get your boots on, there is plenty of walking to be done around Anglesey

ROUTE: 1. Aberffraw.
LOCATION: Aberffraw, Isle of Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
MAP: OS Landranger 114 Anglesey / MÔn. OS Explorer 262 Anglesey West.
PARKING: Parking at old bridge (AD 1731) carpark GR 356 689.
LENGTH: 6.3km with approximately 60m of ascent.
TIME: 1.5 hours.
GRADE: Easy/Moderate.
SUMMARY: An easy going route with the odd wet area to negotiate and rabbit holes by the thousand in the dunes. There may also be herds of cows in the dunes or on the farmland beyond. Wonderful wide views and a stunning beach give the route its character, easily truncated at a number of points.

ROUTE: 2. Amlwch & Parys Mountain.
LOCATION: Amlwch on the north coast of Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
MAP: OS Landranger 114 Anglesey / MÔn. OS Explorer 263 Anglesey East.
PARKING: Park at one of the two carparks in Amlwch Port GR 449 932.
LENGTH: 7.5km with approximately 127m of ascent.
TIME: 2.5 hours or more.
GRADE: Moderate.
SUMMARY: An enjoyable walk from sea to summit, exploring some of the history of copper mining on Parys Mountain. Plenty of industrial heritage mixed in with gentle walking and fine views.

ROUTE: 3. Yr Arwydd / Mynydd Bodafon, the highest point of Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
LOCATION: Brynrefail near Moelfre, north east coast of Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
MAP: OS Landranger 114 Anglesey / MÔn. OS Explorer 263 Anglesey East.
PARKING: Parking in the semi circular roadside carpark in the village GR 480 869.
LENGTH: 6km with approximately 130m of ascent.
TIME: 2 hours.
GRADE: Moderate.
SUMMARY: An enjoyable ascent to the highest point on Ynys MÔn (178m) and the rewarding views to be found there. Mixed walking through farmland and moorland with some rough ground to reach the summit.

ROUTE: 4. Cemlyn Bay.
LOCATION: Cemlyn Bay near Cemaes, northern Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
MAP: OS Landranger 114 Anglesey / MÔn. OS Explorer 262 Anglesey West.
PARKING: Park at either of the parking areas east or west of the bay, GR 336 931 or 329 935.
LENGTH: 5km with approximately 25m of ascent.
TIME: 1 hour or more.
GRADE: Easy.
SUMMARY: A beautiful walk, under the shadow of the Wylfa power station but don’t let that put you off. On a fine day this is an enchanting place with birds, tide races, islands and a gem of a church to entertain.

ROUTE: 5. Lligwy & Moelfre.
LOCATION: Moelfre on the north east coast of Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
MAP: OS Landranger 114 Anglesey / MÔn. OS Explorer 263 Anglesey East.
PARKING: Park at Din Lligwy GR 500 862 or Lligwy Beach GR 496 870.
LENGTH: 9.5km with approximately 110m of ascent.
TIME: 2.5 hours or more.
GRADE: Easy/Moderate.
SUMMARY: A lovely walk steeped in history ancient and modern. Mixed walking on the coastal path, farmland and minor lanes. One short section on the pavement of a busier road. The coastal path is a cliff top path, mostly unfenced and can be close to steep drops onto rocks or into the sea.

ROUTE: 6. Lligwy / Dulas.
LOCATION: Moelfre on the NE of Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
MAP: OS Landranger 114 Anglesey / MÔn. OS Explorer 263 Anglesey East.
PARKING: Parking Lligwy Beach GR 496 870.
LENGTH: 7.5km with approximately 110m of ascent.
TIME: 2 hours or more.
GRADE: Easy/Moderate.
SUMMARY: An interesting walk with numerous coves, beaches and even an estuary to explore. Great views and good bird watching potential in the Dulas Estuary. The cliff path is unfenced and has plenty of steep drops onto rocks or into the sea so care should be taken but the walking itself is straight forward.

ROUTE: 7. Porthaethwy, Menai Bridge and the Belgian Promenade.
LOCATION: Menai Bridge, Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.

PARKING: Parking at the ‘Pay & Display’ adjacent to the Jade Village Cantonese Restaurant GR 553

LENGTH: 3.7km with approximately 80m of ascent.
TIME: 1 hour or more.
GRADE: Easy.
SUMMARY: An easy and very accessible urban walk with wonderful views of the two iconic Menai crossings with plenty of history to explore. All the facilities of this small town are close at hand.

ROUTE: 8. Porth Swtan to Porth Trwyn.
LOCATION: Church Bay near Cemaes on the northern coast of Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
MAP: OS Landranger 114 Anglesey / MÔn. OS Explorer 262 Anglesey West.
PARKING: Park at the Church Bay carpark GR 301 891.
LENGTH: 5km with approximately 90m of ascent.
TIME: 1 hour or more.
GRADE: Easy.
SUMMARY: A very amenable section of the coastal path with access to a number of beaches on the way followed by some pleasant walking on the low hillside above the coast with some interesting features and wide views. More coastal exploring can be done at low tide.

ROUTE: 9. Rhoscolyn to Traeth Lydan (Silver Bay).
LOCATION: Rhoscolyn, Isle of Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.
MAP: OS Landranger 114 Anglesey / MÔn. OS Explorer 262 Anglesey West.
PARKING: Either the beach carpark GR SH 272 751 or perhaps more easy to reach is the parking at
St Gwenfaen’s Church GR 268 756.
LENGTH: 7.5km with approximately 100m of ascent spread out over the route.
TIME: 2 hours or more.
GRADE: Moderate.
SUMMARY: A wild and beautiful walk along the rugged coastline, beaches, coves and cliffs with
views back into the high mountains of Snowdonia. On a wild and windy day with the waves breaking over the cliffs it can be a humbling place, mother nature at her most inspirational.

ROUTE: 10. Church Bay / Porth Swtan to Ynys y Fydlyn.
LOCATION: Church Bay near Cemaes, North Anglesey, Ynys MÔn.

PARKING: Park in Porth Swtan GR 301 891, carpark and toilets.
LENGTH: 7.5km with approximately 100m of ascent.
TIME: 2 hours or more.
GRADE: Moderate.
SUMMARY: Classic cliff top walking through fine open scenery in exposed positions followed by
quiet lanes and grassy farmland footpaths. Great views from Holyhead to the Skerries (Ynysoedd y Moelrhoniaid) with plenty of seagoing traffic and sea birds to watch. Some of the cliff edges are very exposed, care must be taken at times.
